The best kid-friendly cafes in Sydney

Before we had Eva one of our favourite things to do of a weekend was head out for a leisurely weekend breakfast. You know the kind…the one where you read the paper, sip on a coffee and eat a delicious hot breaky. Those days may be long gone, but eating out is still something we love to do, it just looks a little more chaotic now.

So, in order to make eating out with a toddler a little easier, it’s essential you head to a cafe where the baby-chinos are flowing and the staff aren’t going to give side eye when you ask for a high chair.

The Grounds of Alexandria

One of Sydney’s most famous cafes but it is the best for babies and kids. We usually opt to get takeaway and eat outside in the garden. That way there is heaps of room for Eva to run around and lots of things for her to look at. Once you’ve eaten, take a walk through the garden and don’t forget to visit Kevin Bacon the pig and the chickens. My tip; head there over lunch or late afternoon and sneak in a cheeky wine.

Bitton Gourmet Cafe – Alexandria

A little french cafe and grocer serving the most delicious food. They have a kids menu and just out on the terrace is a designated little spot for the kids to play with books and toys. It’s also opposite a great big park.

The Cove Dining Co – Abbotsford

This is such a beautiful spot. Find a spot outside on the verandah in the sun and the kids can play right in front of you in the huge garden. If the weather is a bit gross head inside, there is heaps of room and they have a tonne of books and toys. Plus, highchairs a plenty. They also have heaps of parking, so finding a spot is easy.

Tripod – Darlington

I may be a little biased with this cafe as it’s my local and I may or may not pop my head in literally every single day. The staff are loveliest bunch of people you’ll meet. The food is so good and the servings are huge. They don’t have high chairs but there is a great little spot out the back which we love as it means Eva can’t run way anywhere and she’s just happy to sit on the bench.

Grandma’s on McEvoy – Alexandria

I just discovered this one the other day and it’s a gem. Coffee is delicious and their pastries are the bomb. An entire little corner has been set aside for a cubby, drawing, book and heaps of toys.

West Juliett – Marrickville

This is still one of my fave cafes in the inner west. It’s small, so not heaps of room for kids to run around or play BUT there is the awesome Enmore Park just straight across the road. We usually head there first to tire Eva out and then head on over for food. The chicken sandwich is my absolute fave, and DO NOT leave without trying one of their salted chocolate cookies, they’re as good as they get.

Bread and Circus – Alexandria

This place is massive, heaps of room for prams and a bunch of high chairs to go around. It’s a wholefoods cafe so the food is always healthy and fresh. Parking is easy if you do what we do and throw a bit of a sneaky and park across the road in the Dan Murphys parking.

Happy eating!
