With all this time being stuck in doors and our Winter hibernation plans starting early, there really is no better time than right now to declutter and organise your home!
It’s hard to know where to start when it comes to decluttering, but with my little tips you’ll have your place all sorted in no time.
#1 Come Prepared
Ever find yourself half-way through cleaning your house and regretting your decision? The best way to combat this is choosing a day where you have minimal responsibilities and can designate 2-3 hours to the task. That way you won’t feel distracted or overwhelmed. Make sure to also have things like shopping bags for items you don’t want to keep and a tape measure for measuring out space for new storage options. Storage is key!
#2 Create More Space with Boxes
We often spend too much time rummaging around in the morning looking for everyday items! One way to overcome this is by creating extra space with boxes that you can put everyday items such as shoes, coats, and bags into by the front door. This is also a great way to organise your kid’s playroom, so it stays tidy and nothing goes missing. I also find popping labels on helps everyone know where things belong. That is the next job on my list for the playroom.
#3 Divide and Conquer
Let’s be honest, we all have an inner hoarder inside of us that always questions what if? Between your kids old toys that have too much sentimental value or items of clothing from way back in the day that you think you’ll wear just that one more time, there is always stuff we find ourselves clinging onto. The best way to conquer this is to take everything you need to get rid of and make three piles, a yes pile, a no pile and a maybe pile. With the items from the no pile consider selling them to make a bit of extra cash or donate them to charity to do a good deed.
#4 Consider External Storage Options
Do you ever find your house full of items that you just don’t need all year round such as Christmas decorations, seasonal sports equipment and even things like big Winter coats? It might be a good idea to place them in storage to create extra space and less clutter. This is also a great way to deal with the “unsure box” of items from step #3 to see whether you really need these items or not. Hire Storage are great to use. It is a secured facility that is monitored 24/7, centrally located and accessible 6 days a week, has the convenience to store from a few days to years, and is affordable. The removalists collect your belongings, safely store it, and will return it to you when you are ready. It makes moving and storing just that much easier and less stressful knowing you have professionals to help you out.
