Being pregnant for the first time is probably one of the most exciting phases in your life. Buying all the little itty-bitty clothes, creating a billion Pinterest boards, researching and planning every last detail. But, it can be super overwhelming too. So many questions…What pram do I buy? Does it have enough basket room? Will it fit into my boot? And most importantly, will it rock and sing sweet lullabies to my baby and promise 2-hour naps? Okay, clearly that last one is never going to happen, but you get my drift. If you’re anything like me, you don’t want to spend every single weekend traipsing around to baby stores (Sydney traffic is the worst), and that my friends is why the Essential Baby and Toddler Show is a pregnant ladies’ best friend. It means you can tick all those things off that ever growing list, and still sit down with your swollen feet up for an afternoon Netflix binge session. Hells yes!

We visited the Essential Baby and Toddler Show back when I was pregnant in 2015 with Eva. I loved being able to check out all of the different brands, but I think one of my favourite parts is probably the free expert advice. One thing I found so overwhelming in my first pregnancy was ALL THE ADVICE… And I mean, it comes from every direction doesn’t it? Your Aunty, boss, mother-in-law, friends, local barista and neighbours. Oh, and don’t even get me started on advice from random strangers in the street. It’s so overwhelming and enough to make a tired, hormonal pregnant girl weep.
New this year is the Beginners Guide Live Forums where a range of guests will chat about all the important stuff like birth-plans, breastfeeding, toddler tantrums, safe sleeping, the challenges of being a new mum and loads more. Listen to a range of experts as they fill you in on more info than you could ever read in a bunch of parenting books.
My hot tips for new mums, definitely do not miss the The Beginners’ Guide to Breastfeeding with Australian’s leading breastfeeding expert, Pinky Mckay. This will provide you with so much knowledge and educated advice on what to expect and how breastfeeding changes your mind, body and mood. You’ll thank me later when you know exactly what the difference is between a football hold and a cradle hold. Especially at 3am when you have a screaming baby that won’t latch on in your standard position! Once you’ve soaked up all of your expert info and are feeling super informed, take a stroll through the show and shop up a storm. With over 200 brands including Redsbaby, Maxi Cosi, Dyson, Baby & Toddler Town, Aussie Wipes, Little Bud and Ecostore, there really is something for everyone. And if you haven’t decided on a pram just yet, THIS is the place to do it. Grab a pram and try it out on the Pram Trial Track. This awesome track replicates pretty much exactly what it’s like out in real life with a pram; think bumpy terrain, side-walks, grass, gravel and uneven ground. Baby Product Guru, Carolyn Webster will be on hand to help you in making the right choice for you and your bub.
If you’re a second time parent the show still has a bunch of useful things just for you. But most importantly (‘cause the kids always come first, right?) is the entertainment… it’s off the hook, think equal to this years’ Splendour in the Grass line-up, but for toddlers. Taking the stage will be Hey Duggee, Peppa Pig and Ben & Holly. After the performances your little one can also have a meet-and-greet to take a happy snap. Now onto the helpful info, one session I will definitely not be missing is the Beginners’ Guide to Toddlers, Tantrums and Technology. Presented by Pinky McKay and industry experts, they’ll discuss everything toddler-related, from sharing experiences to how to deal with common issues like managing their devices and moods. This one I need all the help with!
So, if you’re looking for a FREE family day out where the kids can be entertained, or somewhere to soak up all the information to get you fully prepped for this whole parenting gig, the Essential Baby and Toddler Show is for you. Whack the weekend of 21– 23 September in your diary and don’t forget to register now for your free tickets. I’ll see you there. I’ll be the heavily pregnant lady putting my feet up whilst my toddler soaks in all the glory that is Peppa Pig.
Register here for your free tickets to the Essential Baby and Toddler Show. Tickets on the day will be $20.
